Padre Leonardo al secolo Antonio Mercurio nacque a Montauro (CZ) l'8 giugno 1909 è passato alla gloria dei Santi l'8 novembre 1996, all'età di ottantasette anni. Fu un religioso esemplare alla sequela di S. Francesco d'Assisi, semplice e modesto, ardente di fede profonda e vissuta, fedele a Gesù Cristo e alla Chiesa, sensibile alla sofferenza dei poveri e degli ultimi, non cedette mai alla protervia dei potenti di questo mondo. Rese buon servizio alla Patria da Cappellano Militare, fu molto attaccato alla sua Montauro, fu devoto della Beata Vergine Maria e di San Pantaleone, la cui devozione popolare cercò di correggere dal fanatismo,traducendo il famoso responsorio popolare secondo la dottrina del catechismo della Chiesa Cattolica. Uno degli ultimi parroci di Montauro che ebbe la ventura di conoscerlo e di essergli amico rimase molto impressionato della sua umilta' e disponibilita' e del suo attaccamento alla Chiesa di Montauro. Tutta la popolazione della parrocchia di San Pantaleone gli ha sempre conservato venerazione e stima. Il Signore conceda a Lui la gioia e la pace dei giusti.
